Nutri Plant-enzyme based Similase is formulated to provide balanced assistance to the digestion of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Unlike some digestive enzyme products which can become unstable in acidic environments, Similase remains active under all gastrointestinal pH conditions, from the acidic environment of the stomach to the more alkaline environment of the small intestine.

Nutri Similase is well-tolerated by sensitive patients and  contains optimum levels of the carbohydrate-digesting enzyme amylase, fat-digesting lipase and protein-deconstructing protease; as well as maltase, sucrase, lactase, cellulase, and finally phytase €“ the enzyme responsible for breaking down phytates that can otherwise hamper essential mineral absorption.

Enzymes are necessary for the digestion of large moleculemacronutrients (proteins, carbohydrates and fats) into small molecules so they may be absorbed.

Protease breaks down proteins into absorbable peptides and amino acids. Lipase breaks down triglycerides into absorbable free fatty acids and glyercol. Only monosaccharides can be absorbed by the intestine. Starches and dissacharides must be broken down into single sugar units before being absorbed. Amylase breaks down starch. Maltase, lactase and sucrase break down the dissacharides maltose (malt sugar), lactose (milk sugar) and sucrose (table sugar) into monosaccharides for absorption.

Cellulase and phytase break down cellulose and phytates which can bind essential minerals and other nutrients, preventing their absorption.

Psyllium husk fibre and apple pectin have long been utilised for their bulking and cleansing properties, supporting a healthy gastrointestinal tract and normal bowel function.

Psyllium is a bulking agent and is high in both fibre and mucilage, which makes psyllium ideally suited for intestinal health.
