Antioxidants with CoQ10

This test is no longer available

Antioxidants are substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are normal and necessary by-products of many physiological processes including energy production, detoxification and immunity. However, excessive free radical production can result from sources such as stress, environmental pollutants, cigarette smoke, drugs and radiation. These unstable molecules can create havoc in the body and are increasingly implicated in many diseases and premature ageing. Maintaining optimal reserves of antioxidant nutrients can help to protect against this damage, and therefore promote long-term health and vitality.

Antioxidants are important for anyone with a number of conditions, including the following

  • Premature Ageing
  • Fatigue / tiredness
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Stress
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Auto-immune conditions
  • Increased toxin exposure
  • Increased physical activity / athletes

Antioxidants are naturally occurring nutrients found in plant foods, especially fruit and vegetables, however due to poor dietary choices & poor nutrient levels in intensively produced foods, many people do not have adequate reserves. Co-enzyme Q10 is an antioxidant, but is produced naturally by the body and is vital for the health of every cell due to its role in energy production. The use of some medications (including statins and beta blockers), are known to block endogenous production of coQ10, and levels in these patients should be assessed so as to support optimal health.

Where levels of these nutrients are known to be deficient it is possible to increase them through diet and to supplement where appropriate. This test can be used to assess nutritional deficiencies, and/or to monitor treatment.
